Investment Policy

At CTC, the consulting practice emphasizes the development of a written investment policy and the setting of appropriate performance objectives and benchmarks for each segment of the portfolio. Investment policy review takes place prior to the selection and ongoing evaluation of investment managers.  History has shown that in the context of traditional asset classes, over 90% of the long-term returns achievable within a portfolio come from the asset allocation strategy and not the manager selection decision.

CTC begins the process of investment policy review and development by helping clients to determine investment objectives given their risk tolerances, time horizons and projected cash flow plans. CTC then develops written investment policies which govern long-term asset allocation and serve as the business plan for the portfolio. The investment policy also includes the following:

  • Performance targets for each asset class and investment strategy
  • Tactical ranges for shorter term asset allocation decisions
  • The liability structure of the portfolio if applicable

CTC actively involves its clients in establishing their goals and investment objectives and determining the best strategic asset allocation for them.
